Well, we saw mom(grandma) off yesterday after spending a day darting here and there, to bunnings and mitre 10 and 2 parks. A nice day but too sad for it to be a good day. Enjoyed a pizza at the new place in St Andrews before heading off to the airport. A break from the sombre mood came when we remembered the panic of the taxi ride to the airport to catch our Townsville flight and the panix during the taxi flight coming back home. Saying goodbye is the hardest thing to bare. Poor Jade cried all the way back home.

A busy day at work which was prbarbly a good thing to keep my mind occupied. At home followed moms flight on a tracker and just recieved an sms from mom saying she had just landed. So weird to think yesterday she was here having a pizza and now shes back in the uk. Many many good memories, videos and photos.

Got up this morning to discover no Buster on the end of his chain but peacefully asleep on his bed outside the front door. Relief. The crazy mut managed to free himself from his collar and then eat it. All that was left were the buckle and name tag.

Moms Coming Back

Heavenly blog, its been a while since my last posting. Infact not since leaving Townsville. On the journey back home a bush fire warning. Here we go again. Stressed going to the airport and now stress coming home from the airpirt. We told the driver to step on it as theres a fire in our aea. People were evacuating. He was a tad worried about driving into a potentially dangerous situation. Anyway the threat from Strathewan eventually passed but it was enough to remind us about the fear of bush fires abd spur us on to relocate.

Well, mom flew out to tassie a few days later to spend some time with aunty jan and today she arrives baxk to spend her final week with us, hoorah! So i'm just at eltham swimming pool waiting for jade to finish then its straight to the airport to get mom. Chicken wings tonight. Crap weather but thats ok.

Last Night In Townsville

Yesterday spent day in Charters Towers. Very nice old man gave us tour around the museum. Then of to maccas for luncnh the a drive to the lookout and stock exchange. Everywhere very green, love the drive, in the zone.

Today, packing, swim in campsite pool then a walk along the Strand and dinner at our face resturaunt, The Seaview Hotel. Awesome steaks though mom had hers reheated as it was cold. Then back to cabin and watched Graham Norton then Idiot Abroad with the bungees jumping and village tribe where every word began with 'N'. Cool evening.

Drinking last beer. Tomorrow home. Next day work.

Billabong Wildlife Sanctuary

What an awesome day at this place just 17km south of Townsville. With the advantage if being off oeak season we had the keepers practically to ourselves having what amounted to a private tour of the sanctuary with hands on experiance of the animals and shows. The keepers were excellent. It was cool the way the animals followed us around, the little kangeroos and the ducks. We got to hold snakes, lizards and a croc. We saw feeding of crocs, birds of prey show and snake show and we met Ray Charles the blind koala. Such a good 'wow' of a day. On way back we stopped of at Castle Town shopping mall where grandma bought nathan some lego and jade a hello kitty mega block set. I picked up a nikon camera which grandma chippwd in half as a bday pressie. Fish and chips for tea. Hot humid and some heavy rain.

Crystal Creek

Spent an awesome day at Crystal Creek. First we checked out little crystal creek but becuase of all the rain the waterfall and flow was too heavy to swim in so we checked out big crystal creek. The dirt road we had to travel on only lasted one km so no hassel. At the creek the river looked swollen and fast flowing and i decided it was too risky so we walked back to car where we met a young couole we saw ealier by the creek and asked if it was ok for swimming, they said no problem so we headed back and had a great time swimming and we even went on the rapids, grandma too!

In the morning toured the grammer school. Superb. First choice. Impressed in all areas. Kids showed respect, great music programme.

Gteat Barrier Reef Aquirium

This is for yesterday. In morning went to see a house in grange court. Cheaply built, no land but nice area. You shared drive and plot with neighbour. Bottom rung of ladder in this well to do area. Afterwards went to aquirium and saw lots of amazing creatures of the coral reefs also feeding time. In evening had fun watching hells kitchen. Weather hot and humid, plenty of sun. Heavy rain at night.

Magnetic Island

Spent a great day snorkling and swimming with the fishes at Alma Bay, Maggie Island. Unfortunately we all got a little burnt and had to drive to an all night chemist for some after sun care. Had a great pizza lunch time on the island. Saw many kinds of fish, big and small plus jelly fish and a sting ray. Met a lovelly old lady who came out for a swim who lives on the island and has travelled all round the world and continues to do so. Beautiful island. Now back at cabin soothing our burns watching the mens finals (melbourne open).

Saw some nice places, affordable too in northward. Got some snorkerling gear for us all. Had a chat with pimlico principle. Very good school for us as the have big emphasis on music. Currently waiting for maggie island ferry for a day out.

Well here we are in sunny slash wet slash hot slash humid Townsville. This is day 4 so i'll bring you up to date.

Up at 4am to get ready and final pack for taxi pick up at 5am. Call from taxi service at 4.55 saying cant find cabi will call when whereabouts known. 5.15 still no sign with check in at airport closing in an hour. I call taxi rank demanding to know where my taxi is. Woman tells me to calm diwn when i get a text saying on his way so i hang up. Eventually see taxi at bottom of drive but he doesnt drive up and begins to drive away so me and Nathan are yelling at top of voices to get his attention. Eventually he manages to drive up. Its now 5.20. I haul our bags out my car, last resort, and into taxi. Now the driver didnt know how to reverse out and was going all over the place. Another 5 minutes gone. Eventually we make it out onto the road and we tell the cabbie to drive full speed with no time to spare. We eventually get to the airport and check in line just before it closed. We were one of the last on board. I really thought we wasnt going to make it.

Two and a half hours later we arrive in sunny Townsville. Off course our bags were last off the plane. Picked up the hire car and drove to our cabin at Rowes Bay caravan park. We arrived before cabin ready at 9.30 so hung around at the park opposite along the coast. After getting in we unpacked. First job was off to woolworths to get in some essential supplies, milk, bread etc. Then it was back to cabin and spend rest of day in pool. Evening we went to my favourite steak house along the Strand. Weather sunny and hot and humid.

Day 2. Monday.
In morning went to see Belgian Gardens school for Jade. Very nice indeed. Later went to Pimlico school to book appointment for Nathan. Snorklers in the bike sheds. In the afternoon had a drive up Castle hill and popped in to see an estate agent. Dinner was bbq along coast. In evening we had a drink and mapped out houses to view. Weather mix cloud and sun. Hot humid.

Tuesday day 3.
Went around several districts looking at houses. North Ward, Hermit Park, West End. All very nice and some affordable properties that we liked. In the afternoon we did the rock pool and the enclosed swimming area in the sea. Water lovely and warm. Dinner rather unsucessful and asleep by 10.

Wednesday Day 4.
Morning went to see Townsville Central State School. Beautiful school and again very impressed with its program. Happy to send Jade to either Belgian Gardens or this one. Fortunately Townsville State is not zoned. Afternoon after a walkabout down town back at cabin, lunch and off to big bucket and another dip in the warm see. A much better super tonight with chips from the chippy and a selection of fried meats. Forgot to mention last night really pissed down all night. I'm going to grab a beer.

Well xmas has been and gone largley unnoticed except for me and the kids falling ill on consecutive days pushing the Turkey dinner out to the 27th Dec and even then I couldn't eat much of it. Xmas afternoon saw a super storm strike with hail size of lemons and much damage and flooding around diamond creek area, it was something else. Didn't even notice new year except for the yummy beef roast I cooked that was awesome. Upgraded our telstra bundle to 100gb and adsl2+ finally. Went on a bike ride, had a swim in warrendyte river as the weather over the holiday period was super hot and a spot of garden camping. That's about the lot.

Yesterday Buster broke free from his chain after a large male roo approached the house. Nothing was going to hold him back as he lept out of his bed like a lion onto its prey. We were pretty worried there for a while Buster would get injured but he came safely back after a few minutes out of breath but unscathed.

Yes. Reason? Well, bought a new Epson 645 printer yesterday and only just unboxed it TODAY. Took me three hours to get it talk to the computer, wirelessly. Turns out it was the printer port.I havent had to deal with printer ports since I worked on the help desk at ADAS back in 1997. Anyways, good printer. Does the job, and wirelessly. Amanda got a new vacuum cleaner. Hot day Saturday, winters day sunday. Typical f**king melbourne. Nathan in tennis compo final Saturday with his team. They came second ;) which makes them the best loosers.

Kids got their AMEB piano exam results yesterday, both recieved a B+. Pretty good in my opinion but jade was in tears thinking she had an A. I reminded Nathan that inspite of his percieved bad performance if he could still managed a B+ he must be a pretty darn good player. A few gripes though, the examininer was typing up the report on a mac as the kids played and the tap tap tapping was very off putting. Also jades assesment was was critical in a way you would assess a mature high grafe student, talking of phrasing and elegance. She's 8, grade 1 for folks sake. Plus, for general knowledge she commented 'reasonably well known'. She asked jade one or two questions which jade answered both correctly. WTF! Anyway, their teacher is going to make a complaint.

Sundays wether was more pleasing for the drive to hawthorne on sunday for the kids piano exams. Jade taking grade one, Nathan grade 5. Jade in first, not a single nerve. Nathan however was very nervous, first time I think. From the moment he got up it was difficult. Jade came back no worries however nathan was somewhat upset about how he performed. Lots of talking to him that day in more ways than one.

Dropped Nathan off at a friends house so he can work on a project with his team so we are doing a bit of shopping at Rays Outdoors. Picked up a nice pair of walking boots, a bed for Grandmas visit, snorkel and goggles for Jade a two, yes two frizzy bees.

Good weekend. Jade had a two hour gym session and Nathan had tennis comp. It pissed down all day. Replaced bathroom soap dish.

Sunday was a beautiful day. Removed trapped chop stick from sing and replaced rubber seals. Mowed the lawns. Garden looks awesome. Twenty two chicken wings on the bbq tonight.

Tuesday today but I thought i may as well catch up with the weekend events. Another good one, good weather. All booked for Townsville.

Saturday I took jade to gym with Buster. In the evening Grandma called to tell the kids she was coming over and coming with us to Townsville. I knew this already and had it all booked up so it wad a real surprise for the kids.

Sunday was the kids piano concert, just a small gathering of their teachers students. They were both excellent and Nathan was really composed and did a great performance. Jade was ad cool as ever. See youtube links in next post.

Wednesday now so this is a little late. So, a good weekend with good weather. Newely emigrated Rob came round with his family for beer and bbq, great evening and good to see him again. Tough job getting the garden in shape in time haha. Sunday finished of the rest of the mowing. Monday violin, learning some more new peices. Tuesday, same old. Today, shit nights sleep. The great outdoors

Camping out in your garden is one thing but when you got several acres of bushland and no immediate neighbours then its a compeltely different experience. Get out the camp chairs, get a fire going and you could be almost anywhere in Australia. Thats what me and the kids did last night it was great, telling ghost stories and everything. Little Jade was very brave indeed. Prior to this we spent the day at Warribee zoo for a few hours.

Not much else has passed except time since my last post. Got some excellent robot code off to a prospective job which i hope will get me an interview. Thats it.

I seem to be updating my blog a day late, hope to address this with more motivation. So, yesterday saw me at another interview at Scoresby. In for over an hour with me doing most of the talking. Looks like a interesting position. Lets wait and see if I get invited back for a tech interview (which I hate - shouldnt my resume reasure prospective employers about my technical skills? Its kinda insulting.) Oh well.

k, so fooForums is moving along nicely now and i am happy with the look. Bugs are being identified and ironed out. Spent the weekend just gone on writting an effecient connection pool manager which is working well, also refined the query that returns the thread list which has speeded up the overall performance of the app no end.

So, easter weekend what did we do ? Not much. Spent the whole of friday afternoon deciding on a replacement desk for the basement. Finally chose one but today went back to staples to change the color !

What else ?...not much. Jade is walking...had some more pics done yesterday, first set with me without a goatie ! Collected some books from Nexus closing down sale, got some bargains there ! TV man coming to tune our big TV as the flash colored tones have begun to look a little yellowie. Oo, Oo, went out with Aaron and Tara friday to the Yardhouse. Had a great time, got back around 2am I think.

Busy day. Meeting went well with CGI and then onto guitar lessons. Learning about the minor scales, natural, harmonic and melodic. Still pretty darn nice weather.

Ok, so I missed a day a Monday. What ever happens on a Monday ? Well, Evelyn dropped me a line again saying they are still interested so that was good news and also spoke with CGI.

Tuesday spent most of the day trying to sort out a problem for Vinay - having problems executing self serve scripts.

I know the date on this thing says 6th but i'm actually writting it at work on the 7th. Today (yesterday in real terms) we took a trip to Banff after Nathans school to visit Uncle Stuart. We were a little late and found him sitting outside the fabulous Fairmont Hotel, it was good to see him. So, we took a ride into town and found a Starbucks and had coffee and caught up on whats been going on back in the mother land.

Back at the hotel we had a quick walk, thanks Nathan, into the forest and then back again. Inside the hotel we sat in the canteen and had a cup of very weak green tea - with milk ! Yuk. Oh well. Time to go and after saying goodbye the Tomkins drove into town and had a gourmet MacDonalds super and a nice easy drive back home.

Today almost felt as though we were in the middle of summer. An absolutely gourgeous day. I put the kids swing set up though this proved to be a tad stressfull with the two kids under your feet. Later in the day we went for a walk along Kensington and the river, most pleasant.

Nice big juicy pork chop for supper, mmmmmm.

Best time of the week, Friday afternoon. Just about finished the design doc for Campaigns. God, my Jeeps looks cool now its all shiney and has those monster wheels on it!

Home time and it feels good cruising down Memorial even though stuck in traffic when you got the Doors on. Beautiful evening. Managed to reach Stuarts room, left a message on his answer phone. He calls me back later. Good to speak to him again and we arrange to meet Sunday afternoon at his hotel, The Fairmonte, Banff Springs. Looking forward to that. The weather forcast for the weekend is perfect.

Guess I've jumped on the band wagon. I'm a blogger. Why ? Well, i'm too lazy to write a diary, at least this is more fitting for an IT guy like myself.

So today, first entry. Dear Blog.....haha, no not quite.

Fairly slow day at work. Yawn. Design docs - Campaigns. On the positive side though we've been having lovely weather here in Calgary, +13. Also, family friend Stuart Hall is now in Banff after flying in from the UK. I monitored his flight on the internet (a really cool tool) and am now really looking forward to seeing him again. Hopefully we'll get the chance this coming weekend. Thankfully, it seems my family has gotton over the fle and other shit that had afflicted us all for over a week.
